Amfine's LA-31RG, a high molecular weight UV absorber, has been regulated by the FDA as a food contact substance for use in PET polymers.

The food contact substance (FCS) is intended to be used as a stabilizer at levels not to exceed 0.20 weight percent of polyethylene terethalate (complying with 177.1630). The FCS may be used in contact with aqueous and acidic food types I, II, IV(B), VI(B), VII(B) and VIII under Conditions of Use B through H and with alcoholic and fatty food types III, IV(A), V, VI(A and C), VII(A) and IX under Conditions of Use C through G as described in Tables 1 and 2 of 21 CFR 176.170(c).
